My Friday Five

1.

This weekend is the Super Bowl! And while I am slightly depressed to not be hosting a party this year I am happy for the BF to experience his team in the biggest game ever.

While here in Philadelphia grown men woke up at the crack ass of dawn to drink beer, look at half naked women, and watch men stuff their faces with chicken wings. What does that say about the city?

2.

I guess I’ve always been the nerdy kid who enjoys reading. My grandma would walk me to the library in the stroller when I was only months old, so I guess I kind of grew up reading. Which is amazing considering the volume of kids I met in school who simply HATED reading. It definitely was an asset in school and life I think.

I always have a TO READ LIST that is miles long. Some books have been on there for years. But even through college and working now and being busy all the time…I always find myself with at least 1 book out of the library at all times. And hey, I may have to renew the book 5 times to finish the dang thing, but I try to keep up with my reading.

So when The Broke Girls all discovered a shared passion for reading, it made me feel even more at home with the group. And despite our twenty something age status, we created a Book Club, your mom style!

January’s kick off book was Gone Girl. A murder mystery, which is typically not my style at all. But it’s good to break out of the comfort zone.

The Fault In Our Stars is definitely more my style and I couldn’t be happier to read this book for February. The movie version comes out in June and we all know the book version is usually better so it’s the perfect time to read this!

3.

American Horror ended this week. And the only reason I’m not writing out what happened is because my own mother has yet to watch the last episode yet.

This was my first ever season of watching American Horror and I have to believe that people who watched from the beginning of the series would have been disappointed. There was no big twist, no crazy ending. It was actually sort of…happy. And I completely guessed the Supreme (sorry mom, I narrowed it down to 2 possibilities for ya!). And while I totally enjoy being right, I am disappointed for not being more surprised. Maybe I just watch too much TV.

Overall I  enjoyed this season. I really was glued to every episode. And it really brought Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac back into the rotation for me. I’ve been listening to them pretty much non stop this entire season. Even the boyfriend commented that he liked the Seven Wonders song.

4.

I recently purchased something on VitaCost for the first time. One of the fitness bloggers I follow had a promo code for $10 off and so I purchased a surprise for the BF for Valentine’s Day.

You can get so many things from this place, it’s great! Vitamins, supplements, protein powders, gluten free, vegan, raw, and even health and beauty products!

Here id a $10 off code for all of you! It says off a $30 purchase but my purchase was definitely $22 and it let me use it!

5.

The new Lilly Pulitzer spring look book is super cute. I am loving a lot of these items and hoping they’re in the August sale! Lots of blues for this spring.

FRIDAY FIVE

My Weekend In Denver

My boyfriend has been talking about wanting to go to the AFC Championship game in Denver if the Broncos ever play in it at home…pretty much since forever. And this weekend it actually happened!

After they won last week we quickly snapped up airline tickets, hotel reservations, and tickets to the game.

It is the most spontaneous thing I have done in my life despite having it hypothetically planned for years.

20140120-103034.jpgDowntown Denver was quite nice. They have a main street where all the shopping and restaurants are located and it’s so cute with little tables and chairs and horse drawn carriages and a free shuttle bus. I wish Philly had a street like that. They could really take some notes and transform Chestnut/Walnut Streets. And everything was so clean too. Makes you see Philly a bit differently. And the entire weekend was unseasonably warm – no lower than 53 degrees during the day! And 64 on game day!

We did a lot of walking around the city taking in the sights. We went to John Elway’s restaurant for dinner on Saturday and went to the Coyote Ugly bar.

20140121-053157.jpgSunday was game day and we were able to walk to the stadium from our hotel.

20140121-053215.jpgWe decided to go big and get 5th row seats! This was our view with no zoom! It was soooo close to the field.

20140121-053235.jpgPregame they let out a million orange balloons and had guys parachute into the stadium. Those guys are serious pros to land in such a small space.

20140121-071446.jpgPeyton at work! He had a great game!

20140121-071455.jpgUnited In Orange on their feet! Broncos won the game and are AFC Champions! Super Bowl bound!

20140121-053255.jpgIt was such a good game and only a normal level of anxiety for me. It wasn’t close in the end, thank god, because I don’t know if I could have handled it. The boyfriend was so excited after they won the game! Behind us they are setting up the stage for the post game trophy presentation.

20140121-053323.jpg

They released so much orange, blue, and white confetti that the field and seats were literally covered in it. I took a video of this moment and it looks like it’s snowing confetti from the sky.

Here is a non confetti picture of Demaryius Thomas raising the AFC Championship Trophy.

20140121-053301.jpgAnd us post game! We were literally one of the last people remaining in the stands.

And now after a 10 hour day of traveling I am back in Philadelphia; hoping to not get stuck in this awful snow storm today. Stay safe out there today everyone!

First Friday

My first Friday 5 of 2014! Sometimes I struggle with 5 interesting things to write about for this…but this week I am full of topics!!

1.

122.4

Yup that’s what I weighed in at this morning. Heaviest I have been in my life. I’ve been hitting the gym hard again since the New Year and switching some things up to hopefully get some results. Fitness post coming next week!

2.

Check out my post on Broke Girls Go Out to see some of my resolutions for 2014!

3.

How amazing was American Horror Story this week? Gets better and better every week. And of course loved Stevie even though her storyline felt a little forced. Still her scenes/songs were beautiful.

I am really loving Coven and it makes me want to go back and watch the first season of American Horror. But definitely not the second, I couldn’t handle that one.

4.

My poor Eagles lost last week and I’m pretty devastated. It was not fun putting away all those green shirts I was hoping to rock 24/7 for the next 3 weeks.

This weekend, and from here on out I will be rooting for the boyfriend’s team: the Broncos. And really it isn’t that hard to root for them.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

5.

Sunday is also the Golden Globes and I of course will be fangirling and twitter stalking and dress loving and skinny envying over all the goods that awards season provides.

Who am I rooting for?

All things American Hustle. Especially my girl J Law. Can’t wait to see what she wears.

Weekend happenings

I had such a great weekend and hope everyone else did too!!

First I made these muffins that I found from Pinterest! They are so delicious and I will definitely be making them again. Boyfriend approved.

20130916-212340.jpg
Went out with some friends on Friday night. Wore my awesome Lia Sophia necklace that the boyfriend’s parents got me for my birthday.

20130916-212427.jpg
And this is what happens what I ask the boyfriend to take a nice picture of us before going out.

20130916-212515.jpg
Sunday the boyfriend and I took NY NJ and saw the Broncos play the Giants. The boy is a die hard broncos fan and this is the closest the Broncos will be to Philly this season. It was a really great game and the Broncos boat raced seriously kicked the Giant’s ass!

It is definitely an experience to drive fans out of their own stadium. They left in mass after the game got out of hand. Second time we got to witness that as last year the same thing happened when we saw the Broncos play in Baltimore. And then they won the Super Bowl

I also debuted my first piece of non Philadelphian sports related apparel. I love this new women’s jersey, fitted and sparkly without being pink. And semi affordable at only $50 instead of $95.
